On Saturday, January 24, 2026, the GJ JROTC drill team competed at the Brandon High School drill meet. Each cadet was expected to arrive at our school in the JROTC wing of the 4th building no later than 5:10 am. After a speedy inspection of every cadet’s uniform, the team loaded the bus and headed on their way to Brandon High School. The competition began at approximately 8:00 am and was a non-stop endeavor until around 1:30 pm.
Collectively, the GJ drill team had five teams participating that day. They were the male/mixed unarmed squad, the male/mixed unarmed platoon, the female armed squad, the female armed platoon, and the female color guard. Of these five teams, three placed in the competition. The female armed squad finished off in 3rd place, the female armed platoon landed in 2nd place, and the female color guard secured 2nd place.
The GJ drill team competed with unwavering dignity and a serious demeanor, never forgetting their military bearing. Not to mention the outstanding sportsmanship of the team. The unfortunate news of two teams not placing was simply a learning experience for those on the team. Our GJ JROTC program was immensely proud of the perseverance and demanding work of its cadets and continues to champion them as even more success comes their way. We hope that the next competition will be a massive success for every team participating and that the GJ name will continue to be represented remarkably!
