How George's Closet is building a wardrobe for students.

Behind Mr. Robinson's classroom hides one of the most unusual rooms on campus: a wardrobe with racks upon racks of clothing styles. This is "George's Closet", an extensive fashion selection built entirely on student and teacher donations.

The closet began as a way for students to feel as stylish as their peers at no cost. It makes a difference in a number of ways. "As long as we can get clothes to students, then we're helping them," described Doug Spoto, President for the student organization in charge of the closet.

If someone has limited time to go shopping before a job interview or a school presentation, there is an entire rack dedicated to professional attire.

For those facing financial obstacles, George's Closet ensures that they have ready access to clothing as well as hygiene and food items.

When a student just wants to revamp their look, they are welcome to visit the closet anytime they get the chance.

Generosity is apparent in its motto: "Helping others one hanger at a time."

Many are surprised to learn that the apparel here is available for anyone to take. Though it might sound too good to be true, George's Closet is a best-kept-secret on campus. It gives the feel of shopping at a boutique, but without the guilt of a price tag.

George's Closet has many options for students to choose from. There are dresses, shoes, tops, bottoms, accessories and more.

A student-led club works to promote, manage, and grow the closet.

Various drives add to the closet inventory. Currently, fall items including scarves and cardigans are being collected. The wardrobe is constantly updated, also through donations of used clothing. The organization ensures it always has a variety for students to choose from.

Of the activities that encourage students to take from the closet, one stands out.

On October 8, models dressed in glamorous dresses and suits will turn the cafeteria into a runway. The homecoming fashion show is one of three annual showcases displaying the outfits offered on campus.

The fashion shows are also popular events for the participants. Eliana Arnold, a member of George's Closet, describes them as her favorite volunteer opportunities. She remarked, "Not only do we get to be dolled up and have fun getting ready to show off our closet's clothes, but we also grow so much closer during these!" Service brings together those in the club, as they bond over their impact.

"I definitely wanted to make sure this continued to be an atmosphere where people felt supported and happy, and could come here and really feel the difference they were making," describes Doug.

The club is a way for students to make friends and community. Whether the members are sorting through donations, dressing up as models, or lending a hand at a service event, they are doing it all together. With that, they spend quality time with their schoolmates.

"A lot of people don't know where to meet friends on campus, and this is a great place to," said Vice President of George's Closet Vada Spoto.

George's Closet is a hidden gem, but not just for its many fashion options. It is a place where those with a heart for service flourish, encountering like-minded people.

Like Vada states, "It's the individual moments that just makes it better." When a student finds an outfit they're captivated by, or a friendship takes shape, it captures the value of this campus wardrobe.

George's Closet is located in Room 2110. If you're interested in joining the club, please attend the upcoming October 7th meeting after school.
