Interior design is the art and science of design. The ultimate combination of architecture and art to create spaces that people of different sorts can dwell in for generations. There are so many different qualities and types of design styles that people love and you can even mix and match different ones that suit you. It is one of the greatest forms of expression. So, many people don’t realize it but the space you’re in for most of your time can affect the way you think or feel or even maneuver.
In this article, I’m going to teach you how to make a space feel more like you. You can honestly design any space, but truly the best first place to start is the place you spend most of your time in. That place is your room. Yes, your room.
Colors
Let’s start with a color palette first. This is the most important part of your room because this determines all the colors used for decoration, paint, and even those fine line details like a curtain rod or even frames for pictures. If you want to go for a moodier look, you will start for the darks and more matte looks. These are your dark reds, your grays, and maybe your dark earthy tones like dark green and maybe even brown. It you want something very airy, you will go for lighter and brighter colors. These are your whites, off whites, light pinks and maybe even nice light peach. Now once you determine which side of the color scale you want to be on, figure out your style and if you don’t know that figure out how you want to feel in your new room.
Once you determine your color and style, determine if you want this said color to be on the walls or in your decorations or furniture. This is VERY, VERY important because if you paint your walls a color, it’s harder to change it around if your style changes. But I say you should still go for it. You can always paint it over.
Decorations should be fun and playful. Don’t hold back. If you are more minimalist with your style, go for clean cut furniture and simple lines. To make it more "you", I suggest you add your color in things like pillows, throw, or maybe even a rug or little light.
I hope these suggestions help you understand what your room might be missing or get inspired to look deeper in yourself to find how to make your room or any space your in more comfortable. Just remember this advice- Your room doesn’t have to look like the rooms you see on Pinterest or TikTok, it should reflect how you want to live. When you come back to your space from having a long day, what do you want to come back to?
