It was a dark and scary morning... and, today, a bat appeared on the wall in the upstairs hallway between Buildings 1 and 2. It was last spotted at the end of the school day today, and whether it will remain tomorrow is unknown. It’s almost as if the bat knew Halloween was around the corner and wanted to set a spooky mood.
Considering how bats are nocturnal, it probably will leave tonight, but its sighting was still rewarding. Students and teachers observed it and took photos- some were ecstatic, others jokingly warned their friends, “It probably has rabies!”
If the bat remains tomorrow, it should remain undisturbed. Avoid using flash photography or touching it. Even if it seems to be asleep, bats can take up to 20 minutes to become fully alert. Don’t try to feed it your Halloween candy!
Indeed, the bat was a special treat to see, and now we can make up spooky stories about it for Halloween! Who knows, maybe it’s a teenage vampire like from Twilight... But even if you forget about the bat by 1st period tomorrow, have a happy Halloween!
Update- 10/30/2024:
This morning, Mr. Goodman captured and relocated the bat to a nearby forest. He reported that it was most likely trapped in the hallway, which is why there were cobwebs forming on the bat. His act of kindness is much appreciated.
